Hit play, Game shows up but immediately closes.

So I've had this problem for a long time. I can't play this game ever since getitng a new PC.

I've tried multiple resolutions and such, but everytime I hit "play" it just crashes. The window will open and then just immediately crash.

LOG folder only says "Create device failed"

For reference, I am running an I5-9400F, 1660TI, 16GB Ram.

Yes.

Something I noticed, because I installed it on my laptop, and it worked flawlessly(I do not want to play on that laptop) is that if i go into the LOG, and double click the file. The non working PC will say "CREATE DEVICE FAILED" But the working PC will say "CREATE DEVICE=HAL-HARD" or something along those lines.

Hmmm, you seem to have every single file. So i've investigated this a bit further, and i'll going to have a wild guess. Not sure if it's going to be a solution or not (probs not), but worth a try!

So i've check the google about this "CREATE DEVICE FAILED" thingy, and it's listing people issues about/how to fix D3D. Which is DirectX 3D, if i understand much enough....
So i wonder if the PC is in need for an appropriate DirectX update or something? (i have no clue if i said something stupid or not, but this is my best shot ^^*)

Also i would suggest the reinstall.... But i believe it's already tried, as it's an issue for a long time. However, i would suggest it like, either copy your files from your lappy, on your pc (and give a test, see if it's a corrupted/missing file), or redownload and reinstal from it. (which probably going to give the same solution as the files from your lappy)

Lastly, the game should be executable without getting into the launcher, by open it with PSUC.exe. But i assume, it would just start and crash.

If none of this advise of mine were a solution, then i suggest that you might need to check the clementine's discord. It might be busier than here, and so you might find someone else whom dealt with this one before.

Let me know if any of this has had worked or not, for future references.

Now i've got to wonder, is that only psu that is affected by this issue, or other games misbehave like that?

Because if other games have general issues like that, then it might be wiser to take the PC to a service.

I've got an other idea, but that's probably not it either. Because if it would be the antivirus, it would just delete or quaranten the file, instand of block it.
The symptome of it is like, something block it as it's start. Which is odd, especially that the game works fine on an other device of yours.

Edit: Ohhh, forgot to ask, is the PC happen to be new? It then might need a different thing to refresh. Maybe?

No. All my other games work fine, even stuff like Ephinea, MU Online private servers etc....

PSU Clementine is the ONLY one that does this to.

PC is only a year and a half old.

Could you show a screenshot of your "options" menu, when you run the launcher?

Also, is your monitor under 60Hz, or are you using a TV? Anything like this?

You could also try changing the sound buffer settings in "Sound > Custom" in the options, although I don't know if this would throw a hal-hard error.

  Monitor is 144 hz, but i just changed that a day or so ago up from 60.

Hmmm, can you send the "Graphics" from the options too? I know that if it's like custom, then there's no dot. But maybe it could be a reason why the game pop up, and then crash?

But i think from this point i'll let Marmy do the rest, will check on the thread later.

Assuming your game resolution is within limits, it's not being overridden by the launchers custom resolution setting, right? (Hit the wrench and screwdriver icon)

You've tried running the game with your monitor at 60Hz just to be sure, as well?

 

I don't know if Antivirus blocking causes the client to throw this error, but some people have had success in determining this by running the offline client, which usually passes AV without issues. Clementine doesn't come with the offline client, but you can find it on psumods.

Funnily enough, SUCCESS! The Offline program launches without any problems.

Do you have discord where we can talk faster?

Also on a bonus note, when downloading that custom resolution file- It was detected as a virus by Windows Defender.

Some other things you can try?

• You wouldn't happen to be using Gnome's floor reader would you? Try removing it first if you downloaded that.
• try running in full screen to see if the game will run at all
• close any programs that will manipulate the size/properties of the game window (Borderless Gaming, Windowed Borderless Gaming, etc)
• Instead of using custom, try using the preset for Low end. I know your GPU is more than capable, but just to rule it out as part of troubleshooting process.
• use default settings for the custom graphics options. (uncheck everything in the custom graphics settings
• 
• Change the launcher to run as administrator.
•

So mine did the same thing because of 2 different situations. I hope one of these works for you!

Firstly, if you have more than 8 cores in your cpu, PSU hates that a lot for some reason. There is something someone made I think to fix that, but I run a 1950x Threadripper and I just got the AMD Ryzen Master program downloaded and I can turn off half my cores (since i have 16) and PSU runs normally with just 8 cores activated.

Second, go to your firewall and in the admissions/allowances, try browsing files and selecting the online.exe specifically and select it to make the firewall allow it always. 

These 2 things both caused the game to launch and then immediately crash for me, so hopefully, since it sounds like the same thing you're running into, that one of these 2 options helps you out!
