Custom Resolutions

Postby JellyDrivex64 » Wed Dec 14, 2016 5:43 am

Since this new test came out, and I see this custom launcher, which is awesome btw :D

I wanted to know about custom resolutions since now the current custom exe's wont work and when updates come out, they wont work either, how about nativity implementing them?

I could hex edit everytime, every update (if I could find the tutorial that taught me that in the first place...) but that is even if , if the exe you now have will work with the hex edit method.

Ver.2018.07.07 (last update : 2018.08.26)

Thanks to the incredible works done by Agrajag, maps are now fixed !!!
So there are no longer two versions of each custom resolution *.exe (one with and one without maps).

1280x720 - Backup
1366x585
1366x768
1600x900
1680x720
1920x1080
2560x1080
2560x1440
3440x1440
3840x2160

Set your game to 1280x720 (RESOLUTION=5), replace the original *.exe by the desired custom resolution, and you're set.
I don't think I've to explain what the backup is for.

Note that :
- you can't play in 1280x720 with any custom *.exe (seems obvious) ;
- can play in 640x480, but maps will be somewhat broken, for technical reasons
Image Image
if you planed to play in 640x480, you'd better revert back to the originals *.exe
- you can play to the vanilla PSU:AotI Story Mode in custom resolution with fixed map, in addition to the Online Mode (however, these *.exe aren't compatible with offline mission packs ; which shouldn't be an issue for users here ; but I wanted you to be warned).

If someone wants other resolution, just ask for it.

To play in borderless fullscreen mode (aka fake fullscreen), use psuseed (provided by Eidolon).

Mind if I ask for a 3840 x 2160 one, and also a 1600 x 900 one?

I don't, I've proposed it. I've edited my previous post.

I won't go higher than 4k, the game would be unplayable. Iirc, at 4k, it starts to suffer to slowdowns, that's because of how the game was made and handles resources, and I don't think it can be fixed (for example, I've tried to let the*.exe access to 4GB of virtual memory, but I haven't noticed a single change).

And till the UI isn't fixed, I don't advice you to play in 4k (text, etc.. are unreadable).

I haven't experienced any slowdown or anything so far, which is awesome

maybe my pc is just pushing through it with modern hardware or something

Hi so I'm pretty terrible when it comes to following instructions on here. I'm confused as to what I'm supposed to do when I download one of the files. I saw that you're supposed to replace the PSUC.exe with the file I downloaded, but I only have a .7z file instead of a .exe. I assume I have to extract the .exe from the .7z? If that's the case then I might be doing something wrong since I do have Winrar installed but I do not get an option to extract anything from them.

Edit: I've tried 7zip too and it wouldn't work at all. Winrar would actually work for me when downloading the original Clem Launcher.

No idea why 7-zip doesn't function for you.
Have you downloaded the 32-bit x86 version here ?
Installed it correctly ?
Did you make a right click on downloaded archive then did you select "7-zip" and "extract here" ?

If you were able to unpack the "PSUInstaller.7z", I don't see why you couldn't unpack the custom *.exe archive.

And I won't change archive format, I won't propose different archive formats, I'll stick with *.7z

I forgot to mention : only 4:3, 5:4 and 16:9 resolutions.

I can do any resolution, but if it doesn't match any format mentioned hereinbefore, it'll be deformed.
And if I do a 3440x1935, you'll lose too much display area (495px in height ; 247,5px above and bellow the game screen if you center it).

When I tried to resize the HUD, to fix the mini map, it's also something I looked for, but I doubt it'd be possible to launch the game in 21:9, for example.
